Let me start by reminding you about the good news, the unconditional love of God for you.
God cares and He is not out to get you, to punish you or strike with his wrath. He knows all about your sins but still loves you.
He cares about the salvation of humanity, His ultimate sacrifice. He came to show you kindness, to take care of you and to restore to you what you’ve lost.
None can do better!
Your part is to believe the Gospel and receive the gift of salvation, which is a direct response to God by faith. Now this gift has everything you will ever need in this life because God has provided and prepared it for us, by His Grace.
We don’t need to re-do, re-think or to re-invent the wheel despite our good intentions.
I sincerely hope and pray that this truth will become crystal clear to you because this is extremely empowering.
See, I love simple things and this is the simple truth. It’s not complicated at all.
But the problem comes from unbelief and where you have not allowed the truth to impact your life. If the truth is not revealed to you, then you will be in possession of a weak mind and…
Weak Minds Lead to Weak Actions
And allowing your mind to stay weak will surely result in a life mired in mediocrity, defeat and unhappiness. This is far from the will and the plan of God for you.
Today, I would like to talk to you a little about one of the underlying problems, which is a major obstacle to our enjoyment of this journey, as Christians, and the keys to overcoming this hindrance.
First of all, don’t you absolutely long for the time when you can be free to experience happiness and contentment in fulfilling your purpose or your calling?
Yet that certain ‘thing’ or feeling which constantly hinders and interrupts your enjoyment of life seems like a shadow and an unwelcomed companion that seems to follow every step you make.
It consistently prevents you from smelling the roses along the way, from admiring the beauty of the hillside and nature’s landscapes, not to mention the frequent frown that stops you from smiling and giving that often well needed encouragement to your fellowmen along the way…
I believe that while the truth may not shock you – the knowledge that you are partly at fault, just might.
Now, the cause of this major stumbling block is caused by…
Sin and Our Lack of Knowledge
It might seem like I am preaching to the choir here, but first let me say what sin is and I am not being judgmental because being in bondage is a state we all can relate to.
We all have been in bondage at one time or another and unfortunately there remains far too many of us in the church still living comfortably within its walls, despite the fact that our freedom and our divine release have been given and our change has come.
Religion is one of the areas that we are bound to. It’s a bit like sleeping with the enemy. Here is the problem with religion. It concerns external action and it’s not particularly bothered about the issues of the heart. You are kept believing that your deliverance and salvation depends on you.
It forever blindfolds and leads you under the guise that you can only approach or receive from God by your own doing or your own righteousness. And as a result, you live under a performance mentality. You are blinded from what God has done for you, through Jesus, by focusing on what you are doing to get God’s righteousness through outward appearances.
This error will hold you in bondage.
Furthermore, when you hold or put more emphasis on the traditions of men over the commandments of God, or holding it in high esteem, you in effect are neutralizing the power of God’s Word in your life. Big mistake!
You will be kept in bondage when you neglect the word of God and fall for any word contrary to the Word of God. Because in essence, you are obeying your feelings, desires, your senses and you are tricked into believing that that’s okay. But that’s sin.
You need to understand that you will be tempted at the place where you are weakest and most vulnerable. But you can safeguard yourself by being open to truth and to trust God and understand that His Word is right anyhow, anywhere and in any situation.
Have you ever been in situation when you are struggling to do what is right and you accept the thought that plays out like, “Oh, God knows you are human…?”
Yes God knows you are human, but here is the thing. God has already made a way for you, through Jesus who was made human for our benefit.
Remember, because He knows what you are, He did what you could not, so that through His Grace you can now do what you could not.
Reject the Lies of The Enemy
Only you can, and the more you do, the stronger you will be.
I have heard it said that a strong, disciplined mind cultivated through daily practice, could make miracles. I tend to agree.
Many believers, myself included, at one point or another suffer needlessly because we believe the wrong things about God.
If you want to live your life to the fullest, care for your thoughts as you would your most treasured possessions. Try to be very meticulous and the rewards will be abundant.
So let’s be clear here. As a believer, a Christian, a child of God, a saved man or woman of God, you can and will find that you are living in bondage to sin when the Fruits of the Spirit of God are not manifested in your life. Which self-examination can only come about by the Holy Spirit and the mirror of God’s Words.
In reality you have remained sick, depressed, fearful, miserable and poor – mentally, physically and emotionally. These are barren and unfruitful areas in your life, which you must give up to God.
As written in Philippians 2:5 – Let this mind be in you, which also was in Christ Jesus:
Guide your mind because you can be led away into captivity, primarily by your thought life and your feelings.
As you know, we are created with certain feelings, emotions and indeed our five senses. This is why it is so important that you learn to master the ‘feelings’ into submission with the Word of God.
Not the other way around.
Now I know you know as well as I do that the enemy desires to take a stronghold in your mind (and heart). That’s where the devil wishes to rule your life.
Because if he can destroy your mind, you will become of…
No Earthly Good in the Kingdom of God
But the good news is you can turn your life around, because you and only you have the power to give full control of your life over to Jesus.
As Christians we say that God rules and has complete control over everything and all things. He is supreme and I agree. But let me ask you this question.
Does God have complete control over every area of your life?
If He does then you are free. Praise the Lord!
But if God does not, then you are in bondage and you need to figure out who or what has dominion over you.
Perhaps you are not sure.
Well, let’s see… do you allow the negative sentence to complete itself in your head? Are you particularly hard on yourself? Are you judgmental, quick to criticize yourself and others? Maybe you complain a lot and love to blame and condemn others and not take responsibility for your own actions or inactions?
Are you quick to see flaws in others but see yourself as well, perfect? If you’ve answered yes to any of the above, then…
All these and more are common thoughts, practices and habits that we have allowed access into our mind and think nothing of it.
A word of wisdom… remove and resist the urge to continue ties with them. You must work hard to remove all inner turbulence because an undisciplined mind does great harm.
But all is not lost. You can receive your freedom by…
The Renewing of Your Mind
The believer’s life, your life, is a gift from God which you must decide how to unwrap and delight yourself in. Indeed, a journey which is meant to be freely and wholeheartedly taken even though you will meet bumps and unevenness along the way.
This decision is entirely up to you.
Now to do this you must practice studying and meditating on the Word of God, specifically about who you are in Christ.
Repeat them often until it becomes your ability, your nature, to wholeheartedly believe the Word of God.
Here are a few practices and attitudes to start you off with: Refuse to worry, adopt an attitude of gratitude, always give thanks and stay open to receive God’s help. Remain restful in the presence of the Lord at all times, enjoy His peace and the security of His love for you and last but not least walk by faith and not by sight.
I believe once you see and know who you are in Christ and believe with your heart the gospel of Jesus, as it regards your position in the world, it will make a lot of difference to you and the way you live.
You will experience a release from your captivity and see the physical manifestation of the Fruits of the Spirit.
Finally, a word of caution, remember, the devil comes to steal, to kill and to destroy and will show up at the place where you have a need. So let God be the supplier of all your needs according to His riches in glory.
Because when you accept what the enemy of your soul offers, he will lead you away into captivity.
With that said, be strengthened in the knowledge that he has no power over you except the power you give to him.
